MLB Babble has now moved to the Most Valuable Network. The URL is still the same—http://mlbbabble.com—but I will no longer be posting on this WordPress blog. I have placed this update on all pages in an attempt to redirect visitors to the updated blog. Again, the URL is the same—http://mlbbabble.com. Thanks for reading!
Tonight San Francisco Giants pitcher Jonathan Sanchez tossed a no-hitter against the San Diego Padres, striking out 11, while walking 0. The only reason the game was not perfect was an eighth inning error by Juan Uribe.
I feel as though a lot of people would say that Sanchez really tossed a perfect game tonight because he was—statistically speaking—perfect. But I do not believe that to be the case.

Sanchez threw a no-hitter, pure and simple. Had Uribe not made that error, the entire course of the game would have been altered. Yes, less than two innings were left in the game, but had Uribe’s play been different, Sanchez would have subsequently had to throw different pitches to different batters, creating different outcomes of plays. You cannot absolutely say that Sanchez would have remained perfect.
Uribe’s error was just one of those plays in the game. It’s an unfortunate thing for Sanchez because he was truly extraordinary tonight.
