Jose Canseco was quoted as saying that Major League Baseball will “have a big, big problem on their hands when they find out they have a Hall of Famer who’s used.” This was when hearing about Ortiz and Ramirez’s PED revelations; he was not surprised in the slightest.
Irrespective of his motivations, he has been right about absolutely everything. Personally, I believe him. Rickey Henderson? I don’t know. He did develop power in the mid-1980’s. It’s possible.
Also, I would be very surprised—but it is possible—if it were Cal Ripken Jr. His power numbers remained consistent. But the use of HGH in the 1990’s? That could have surely enabled him to recover more quickly and allow him to set the record for most consecutive games played.
I doubt the user was either of these two men. But I for one believe Canseco. He was right about A-Rod when everyone called him a liar and tried to destroy his credibility. He was right about Palmeiro. He’s been right about EVERYONE. I doubt that, all of a sudden, he’s going to lie.

I believe him too.
My gut feeling is that the Hall of Famer in question is Rickey, since he and Jose were teammates, and as far as I know, Jose hadn’t previously mentioned that any Hall of Famers had used performance enhancing drugs, suggesting someone inducted very recently. Had the person been elected by the time Jose was promoting his book and started naming names, I get the feeling Jose would have mentioned a Hall of Famer, if there was one at the time.
One thing I wonder about this revelation is, will this affect the way the Hall of Fame voters look at Mark McGwire and others linked to PEDs?
Good points.
That’s an interesting question. I don’t think it will change the way voters look at McGwire and crew unless it can be proven that someone in the Hall juiced. If, however, it is proven, there’s no reason these guys shouldn’t get in.
they were using greenies etc… since the 60s. most likely, canseco is referring to that.
Apparently I spoke too soon and was wrong… Jose says the Hall of Famer wasn’t Rickey.
